Scuba diving provides amateurs and professionals both with experiences that cannot be replicated. The joy of the first dive, the challenges of the initial course work, fear, excitement all come together to provide an experience that is both existential and rewarding. Looking down into an abyss 4,000 feet deep off Grand Cayman, being inside a cage viewing Great White Sharks in Madagascar, drift diving in Indonesia, swimming across the amazing coral reefs off Australia’s Great Barrier Reef this is just the beginning. Coral reefs are estimated to cover 284,300 square kilometers (109,800 sq mi), just under one tenth of one percent of the oceans’ surface area. Oro Verde (Green Gold) wreck, Green Moray Eels, Angelfish, Silversides (seasonal), small crustaceans such as Arrowhead Crab | The wreck of the Oro Verde is always an interesting dive. Though the wreck is getting a little “long in the tooth”, it remains a popular spot for west side divers. Off Seven Mile Beach this site provides a good site for a second shallow dive or a night dive. |

First Cathedral is the premiere dive site at Lanai. It is also a dual pinnacle set up and is one of the largest most diverse dive sites in Maui County. The pinnacle with the moorings is 35 feet deep on the shallow portion and has a large arch on the west side. The northern side provides an excellent wall with caves, nooks and crannies and a swim through arch. A sand channel separates this from the wash rock pinnacle that comprises First Cathedrals. This large cavern has a maximum depth of 45’-50’ deep and a ceiling overhead up to 20’ high. It has a lace work of lava on the east wall that allows light in a manner suggesting a stained-glass window. Hence, the name, First Cathedrals. | |

Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman have spectacular wall diving. You will find the visibility and variety of marine life hard to beat. We have been diving the Caymans for 20 years and it never disappoints. North and East end off Grand Cayman is some of my favorite and if you can talk the boat driver into going a little further than normal Babylon is the place to go. | |
